Legends of Girona , Pt 1 - "La Cocollona"

Hey everyone!!
It’s been a while since our last post, I hope you didn’t miss us too much ;)!!  It’s a lot to think about with the GWC,  music, transport, replying e-mails, trying to fit everyhting in the budget and so on…

But enough with excuses!! To make it up to you guys, we prepared a very nice  series of posts about the Legends and interesting facts about  Girona, it will help you seeing the city with a different point of view, with a more “magical” perspective maybe…

As everybody knows, Girona is a very beautiful, cosy and charmy city. A big part of this charm is thanks to all the history and legends hidden in every corner.
This week we are going to tell  the  Legend of the Cocollona:

Beside the famous Onyar river , many many years ago, there used to exist a convent by the river, that was inhabitated by some not very well mannered nuns, they didn’t like following the rules and were not exactly born with the vocation for it, except by one of the nuns, she was a very tender, hard working and good girl, who was always trying to convert her friends into real nuns.

But these girls didn’t want to listen! They just wanted to keep the party on! So they decided to lock the poor nun in a dark , cold and humid cell under the convent.  Living for so long in such a humid place made our heroin develop some kind of scales on her skin that within time made her look like a crocodile!

But since she was such a good person, God gave her a pair of butterfly wings, so she could fly away from that horrible place and be happy!

And that’s why she is called “Cocollona” because she’s a mix of a crocodile and a buttlerfly, in catalan it would be "Cocodril" and "Papallona".

After her death, some  say that the good hearted and sensitive people still can  see her, swimming in the river, when the first rays of  sun appears after a full-moon night!

This was the  Cocollona Legend, see you next time for more stories!
